A question for you contractor types.

I have a client who has experienced a few leaks in a sprinkler installation
with some steel but mostly CPVC pipe. It passed the initial hydro and now a
year or so later, they have experienced a few leaks over the past year which
the original installer and/or servicing contractors have fixed.

In my mind the number of leaks they have had seems relatively minor given the
scale of the job (thousands of fittings of all kinds and sizes) and there is no
clear pattern to the leaks that would lead you to believe that there might be
problem with the installation of a given fitting type or the work of a single
fitter being sub-par.

But hey...this is construction...nothing is perfect...stuff happens.

My question is do any of you have any data and/or rules of thumb with regard to
the number of leaks that might need follow-up repair following initial
installation? Maybe some assumption you base your warranty costs on etc. I
would like to be able to go back to them and say that perfection is often
sought but rarely achieved and that general industry experience is......

If you got something, even if it is anecdotal, I'd love to have it. I specify
and design 'em, but don't put 'em in. So I just don't know.

Thanks
