Steve, I understand there are numerous reasons why AFSA and NFSA don't merge into a united association for the industry. But hopefully this might be an opportunity to present a united front to the public, and enlist the aid of others (without as much financial interest) by developing a response presented by a group of others in the industry-
Would it be feasible to have a press release or other announcement put together stating that this FPE's comments absolutely do not reflect the reality of fact, and have it signed by a coalition of industry groups such as: AFSA, NFSA, SFPE, IAFF, NFPA, SFMs, ICC, and ok, I see I'm dreaming. Just wanted to plant the seed, see if it is possible to reduce appearance of $ interests, and have it be a larger face talking than just a series of smaller salvos. Glc Bc- you're right and it needs to be addressed publicly as a FP industry response, not just from groups of spkr contractors lest we look like moneygrubbers ourselves. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, May 17, 2007 4:03 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: Fwd: Schirmer Engineering Roland, et al, I do not agree at all that the world of consulting is exemplified by this example at all. I have been a consultant in this industry for many years and have run across dozens of people like me who believe it is our job to be an advocate for the codes and standards we are providing opinions and technical support for. The unique position of being paid by an owner for an opinion which will be reviewed and accepted by an AHJ does not gran one license to provide opinions which are neither supported by facts or at least by supposition derived at by interpreting the facts. I beleive most consultants do the right thing and have good intentions. Like dozens of others who saw the video clip, I am at a loss to explain the position taken by the former SDFD Staff Engineer but I still beleive strongly that Fire Departments must have trust and faith in 3rd party consutants who are utilized where the FD doesn't have staff or expertise to review building uses, hazardous materials and storage arrays, etc. Must of us are credible and put fire and life safety ahead of the almighty dollar if for no other reasons than true passion and fear of the law suits which are sure to follow losses.
