Looking for input: I have a new vault/building that is to be segregated by three hour fire rated construction into three compartments. (NEC Article 450) The compartments will contain a transformer in two of them with switchgear in the other.
The question is would sprinkler protection provided within the structure add any value i.e.business interruption/property protection? The building is essentially remote from other buildings/exposures and is provided with crush stone in pits below the oil filled transformers for containment. The NEC allows the three hour fire rated walls to be reduced to one hour for what that is worth. Thanks in advance. Peter A.
