There have been about 150 messages posted to the SprinklerCHAT group
in the past two years....certainly not much activity. I've always
felt that the reason it didn't get as much activity was that
subscribers are probably the same group the subscribes to
SprinklerFORUM, and they sometimes tend to post messages here that
should have gone to SprinklerCHAT. That once concerned me, but given
the nature of the discussions, I think the SprinklerFORUM does a good
job in covering overall issues. Some issues specifically related to
business practices and labor are more appropriately posted to
SprinklerCHAT.
As some of you will recall, we also started a bulletin board type
forum as a test for a limited period, but it got no activity so we
dropped that because it would likely have interfered with the other
email lists. While we sure don't discourage any discussion or
establishment of other discussion group, too many sources means less
people participating in each one. We were very early in setting up
the SprinklerFORUM and it has a tremendous audience. Today, anyone
can set up a discussion group on MySpace, Yahoo, etc. -- but I think
the success of the Forum is that it has an active group with a
specific focus.
If anyone has suggestions about how to increase activity on
SprinklerCHAT, we are certainly open to new ideas!

Heck, there's been this entire national trade association that,
until some
recent interaction the past couple years, has done very well for
like 100
years without me. BTW, since this is the time of year, I'd
appreciate if
users of this FORUM would consider- if not already members- either
membership or consider it share ware and send a check (hey, maybe
paypal) to
AFSA for whatever you think its been worth to you. The afsa is a
nonprofit
trade association dedicated to, amongst other things, the education
of those
involved in this industry, and industry promotion and improvement.
It's a
good way to thank those who help the industry that puts food on
your table,
and I doubt the AFSA would not deposit checks for $25 or 50 or $100.
