An existing AFFF foam system, supplied by sea water, needs the pumps replaced. The pipe supplying the pumps, and from the pumps to the deluge valves, in diameters from 8" to 4", totals less than 200' in length.
Our client is looking to us for guidance on what kind of pipe should be used to replace the old pipe. The old pipe is black steel. How do you determine the cost effectiveness of new steel pipe vs. ductile cement lined vs. galvanized vs. stainless steel? How do you estimate life of pipe? From your experience, what other concerns should be considered for this decision? Thanks for the help.
