no.  The individual return bends are required ao that as water passes the
openings it will not deposit anything into the drop piping.  In this
"remodeled (read "cheap") version" all sediment that enters the line or
originates within the line will deposit into every drop pipe until the
sediment is all used up.  This will happen with every filling AND with every
draining of the system as well as during a response to a fire.  Your
contractor knows better or at least he should.  Cheap is cheap, but not
always compliant.
