Ed, Two situations in our jurisdiction within 5 years.
1) 40 Riverside Avenue - 12 Story R2 - Assisted Living- Fire Pump prime mover burned out during testing, Fire Department Engine tied into FDC and proximate hydrant, fire watch initiated with radio communications from the fire command station to the engine operator. Fire Pump restored and retested appx 4 days. 2) 1 Riverview Plaza - 6 story I2- Hospital - Fire Pump replacement/upgrade required. Option was a temporary pump or reserve fire department resources, the latter being chosen as lower cost and logistically less complicated. Fire Department Engine tied into FDC and proximate hydrant, fire watch initiated with radio communications from the fire command station to the engine operator. Fire Pump restored and retested appx one week. In both cases a fire protection engineer was employed to survey the suitability of the existing FDC configuration. Relief for the fire crews and fuel for the engines arranged. All worked out well. Hope that helps, John Drucker Fire Protection Subcode Official (AHJ) Firefighter Borough of Red Bank, NJ -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Ed Kramer Sent: Friday, July 18, 2008 4:04 PM To: [email protected] Subject: RE: FDC Connection Can any of the current or former fire fighters on the forum give insight to how often the FDC becomes the sole water supply on a sprinkler system? I'm imagining scenarios where a control valve is closed, a water main is out-of-service, etc. I'm not asking about manual standpipes, that's a completely different animal (in regards to the function of the FDC).
