Chuck, We have had to chlorinate our piping before and have not seen or heard of any ill affects due to this process.

The amount of chlorine applied shall be such as to provide a dosage of not less than 50 ppm. The chlorinating materials shall be introduced into the water supply lines and sprinkler systems in a manner accepted by the engineer. Following a contact period of not less than 8 hours, the chlorinated water shall be flushed from the system with clean water until the residual chlorine is not greater than 0.4 ppm. All valves in water lines being sterilized shall be open and closed several times during the 8-hour period. I am curious to know if there's anything regarding the chlorine that could 'damage' the components of the sprinkler system. Having chlorinated water sitting stagnant at times for 8 hours on the sprinkler seats, etc... Any help, NFPA exceptions, guidance would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
