See NFPA-33 (2007 edition), paragraph 9.4.6...a new requirement.
You must calculate for 30-gpm from the sprinkler protecting the stack.

Subject: Small orifice sprinkler use in paint booth exhaust duct

Can I use a small orifice head in the exhaust stack of a paint booth in
lieu
of 11.2K heads that are in the rest of the booth 14' below to balance
the
calcs? A larger orifice head draws too much water to make the calcs
workable. NFPA 13(2002) 8.3.4 alludes only to explicitly allowable use
in
light hazard occupancies on wet systems. Does this head have to be an
upright at the top of the stack(which is 4' in diameter, vertically
oriented, and about 11' in length with a rain cover over the top), or
can it
be a SDWL installed in the middle or near the bottom? The required
location
this head is driving the whether this system can be wet or not.
