Let's say any type, flavor or color of an electrical equipment room typical in
a commercial or industrial type application, one with panel boards, switch gear
maybe even a transformer.

Find a code distinction between any of these and any restrictions on the
penetration of sprinkler piping into or through the space.

Residential is not in the equation.

Craig,

Lets make sure this is crystal clear. Are you speaking of an everyday vanilla
wrapper electrical panelboard room ?, and not a vault or
elevator machine room. Also what adopted codes and editions.

Please, can someone provide the code section stating that if you are protecting
the electrical room as well as the rest of a building, the main feeding the
branches within the electrical room have to end in the room and can not
continue to adjacent areas of the building.

I couldn't find that wording in the NEC or the Handbook stating any such
restrictions. I might have missed it and would like to know for sure.
Need actual Section and wording.

Maybe you can in SC, but in PA if you run thru an electrical or elev equip room
on the way to another room, you'll be ripping out pipe, installing a plug, and
re-routing your feed.

You can run into them and protect the space. You can't continue thru to provide
additional protection elsewhere.

If you're supplying sprinklers in the electrical room you can pass through it.
You don't run through the electrical room if you're not protecting it to
service an adjacent room.

As far as service clearances, generally when you're at the ceiling, you are
most likely outside of that "sacred" space.

And sprinkler piping does get some preferential treatment (one of those rare
occasions) in comparison to other utilities within electrical rooms.

I understood you can run into your head(s) but not back out to others.
Kind of an ENTER HERE followed by NO EXIT.

So this doesn't prohibit pipe from passing through an electrical room, right?
You just need to stay out of the "dedicated" space?

I know it's in the code but I can't put my finger on it, what section talks
about not running a sprinkler line through an electrical room?
While I'm on it what section prohibits running through a stairwell?
Thanks, I'm in a time crunch otherwise I wouldn't bother you........
