Clarke is the only one available to the best of my knowledge, and I've been
to a few trade shows and installed a dozen of these. They are, BTW, the
cat's meow if you need to drive a lot of water down a big pipe in a hurry
(think freezer Q). What designer doesn't want a flat curve at 170 PSI at
pump discharge?

Cummins thought they would develop one as they transition to the new
electronically controlled Tier 3 diesel engines, but as of Oct 2008
(AFSA-DC) they had no PLD offering.

Clarke, on the other hand, mentioned more offerings in early 2009, since we
bid a project where the largest Clarke PLD 375 HP was used, and the water
supply wasn't established yet- so if we needed more oomph, we had nowhere to
turn. They should be up to 600+ HP soon- so you'll need an RPZ to prevent
testosterone from going back into the public supply.

And I don't know that #20 "allows" as much as "requires" the PLDs in
situations where we used to just truncate the water supply by dumping a
zillion gallons into the retention pond.

Any one with better info than I have on electrics please chime in, but on
the last time we looked at an electric driven PLD pump, i.e., using VFD, my
vendor observed the controller was $75k, did he still need to price the pump
and motor? Nah, slide another Clarke down to this end of the bar.

Subject: Variable speed pressure limiting fire pumps

Gentlemen,

NFPA 20 par. 5.7.6.3 allows Variable Speed Pressure Limiting Control
(VSPLC).
According to the distributors that I spoke with, Clark seems to be
the only fire pump manufacturer in the US who actually can provide
listed fire pumps with VSPLC.
My question is: is that true?
Or are there other manufacturers who also market diesel driven VSPLC
fire pumps with a listing?
If so, which one(s)?
