Greg, The country is surely capitalist, not pure mind you, but would you really want to have a real free market economy and the robber barons, child labor, slavery and all it can engender. Our work is derived from government regulation and would not exist in a true free market. Hammurabi, despot that he was, recognized the need for codified rules. Rhetoric and emotion aside does anyone really believe that members of one of the only two viable political parties we have available to us would "do EVERYTHING IN THEIR POWER to restrict free trade" and then manage to advance through the cut-throat political process (financed by free traders on both sides) to the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives. If anyone believes that, then I will believe that George Bush (senior), member of Skull & Bones, torpedo bomber pilot, successful oil entrepreneur, head of the CIA and successful candidate for President of the United States, was a wimp. And now, after previously railing against politics on the Forum, I'll shut up. Have a weekend all.
