Everything both of you are saying is understandable and applicable, Just picture this; 2 layer system with 6 foot vertical separation w/ open floor grating 75% plus open. Just does seem that was the intent. Perhaps AHJ should be consulted?

Prevents cold-soldering from roof sprinklers. glc -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Thom McMahon Sent: Tuesday, July 21, 2009 11:33 AM To: [email protected] Subject: RE: open grate flooring If you read the handbook it says pretty much what G said about storage dust mats, and as far as the "Cat Walk" goes, I'd say the structural members that are supporting the cat walk, Mezz. and landing will also work to obstruct or deflect the sprinkler spray. As far a skipping and over discharge, it would be no worse than if these were 4+' wide ducts. The committee must think that this is acceptable, since they haven't required that these heads be added to the hydraulic design for all the years this has been in the standard. Roland? I have concerns what it would do to actual sprinkler activation, skipping, over discharge...etc Subject: RE: open grate flooring If it helps you internalize it, picture some storage atop the catwalk or mezz as an obstruction to spray; or a floor mat of some sort acting as a dirt/duct barrier also blocking spray. You don't see em now, but they appear later in occupancy phase. glc _______________________________________________ Sprinklerforum mailing list http://lists.firesprinkler.org/mailman/listinfo/sprinklerforum For Technical Assistance, send an email to: [email protected] To Unsubscribe, send an email to:[email protected] (Put the word unsubscribe in the subject field) _______________________________________________ Sprinklerforum mailing list http://lists.firesprinkler.org/mailman/listinfo/sprinklerforum For Technical Assistance, send an email to: [email protected] To Unsubscribe, send an email to:[email protected] (Put the word unsubscribe in the subject field) _______________________________________________ Sprinklerforum mailing list http://lists.firesprinkler.org/mailman/listinfo/sprinklerforum For Technical Assistance, send an email to: [email protected] To Unsubscribe, send an email to:[email protected] (Put the word unsubscribe in the subject field)
