A previous, separate topic reply had said "live by the sword, die by the
sword"....

Does the spec also give an importance factor to the trades, i.e. #1 has a
guaranteed location, and then #2 can have what's left and available, #3 and
so forth? If so, where do the sprinkler main/branch lines come into list
(hopefully above duct, but I doubt it)? Not much of an argument if your
build everything on Section 1 if Section 2 give you a number in line.

If he wants to be low, fine, tell him the highest trades need to install
first "It's industry standard", and after everyone else is installed above
him then he may install. Why aren't his HVAC units high so the water lines
run into the units from the bottom (so sediment does not gunk up the unit)
and the condensate lines have plenty of horizontal distance for slope? Or
go after the GC for inefficiencies for install since you have to go around
all of his stuff, or maybe start asking him to remove parts of the system so
you have access for install (a couple unavoidable lift collisions may have
an affect also).

8" is not a lot of room for 2x4 light install, what are the lights spec'd
at? Have the electrician step in on this. Are there any can lights? Does
the ACT guy have the splay wire install issues? Are you installing
concealers (unless you're going into the head with a 90), smaller issue with
semi-rec? Are there additional hanger issues (tee on the runs, trapezes)
because the duct is too wide and the sprinkler location is farther that
allowed (change order)?

Subject: Renegade HVAC Contractor

I could use a little ammo for an upcoming coordination meeting I have on
Monday. We are working on a pretty big school and the HVAC sub (per the
spec) is suppose to be spearheading a set of coordination drawings that all
subs need to agree on and then sigh off on before "any work can be
fabricated or installed". These drawings still have not been completed and
are actually not even close to being done.

Here's where it gets good:

* He has already begun installing his duct and has actually completed
a couple wings. (without the approved coordination drawings)
* He wants to run all his ductwork 8" above ceiling throughout and
says sprinkler pipe needs to run above him, "that's industry standard" !!
* He says he's never heard of ductwork being run through the joist,
it's always the sprinkler lines that run up high. (this is in areas with
ceiling tiles)

I could go on and on but I think you get the point, what I would love to
have is some hard facts/references that I can provide at the meeting so this
doesn't turn into a bigger pissing contest than it already has. I don't dare
release our pipe for fab without the drawings being signed off but in the
mean time he is installing away!

Regards,
