"Spearheading the coordination drawings" and being responsible for coordination can be two different animals. Many of the projects I get involved with, the HVAC contractor is the one who actually puts together the drawings, but the responsibility for the coordination is with the GC. Unless you have a spineless nit for a GC, he should call the HVAC guy for installing before the coordination is done as stated in the spec. As far as bullets 2 and 3, unless this guy has only done residential, he's blowing smoke up your butt. Sharpen your claws and good luck.
