And herein lies where it appears there is some discrepancy. Where is the term "Sprinkler Protection" defined as you've stated? Sorry but someone has done some extrapolation of the terms.
It would be virtually impossible to prevent water from entering the dedicated electrical space unless you placed physical barriers in the way. Then if you did that you'd be creating an obstruction to sprinkler discharge. There is also wording concerning waterproof covers or shields over equipment so spraying on top of the equipment is obviously assumed to be a regular occurrence when sprinklers are discharging and would hardly require a clarification in the NEC. Plus if sprinkler piping was not permitted to intrude into the dedicated space, why would (c) even mention the word piping, why wouldn't it mention sprinkler discharge instead if it meant the water spray from a sprinkler? ---------------------------------------- QUOTE: "(c) Sprinkler Protection. Sprinkler protection shall be permitted for the dedicated space where the piping complies with this section. "The NEC is specific here and the operative term "Sprinkler Protection" means its ok to spray water into the dedicated equipment space, as opposed to saying "sprinkler piping" which is not permitted in the dedicated equipment space.
