George, Under NFPA-13 definitions, a riser is any vertical supply pipe in a system, which is quite different from it's definition of a system riser.
In the strict definitions of NFPA-13 terminology a riser could indeed serve a branch line(s) or a feed or cross main(s). I realize that what Dewayne was talking about was -13R, but I've spent some considerable time explaining that a vertical pipe raising the level of the cross main from 10'-0" to 28'-0" was indeed a riser, at least as far as NFPA-13 was concerned. -- PARSLEY CONSULTING Ken Wagoner, SET 760.745.6181 voice 760.745.0537 fax [email protected] <mailto:[email protected]> e-mail www.ParsleyConsulting.com <http://www.ParsleyConsulting.com> website George Church wrote: > I think the piping serving heads is called a branch line, not a riser. > A riser supplies a system. > I didn't dig out the definitions lest we fall into the trap Bill Brooks > found himself in awhile back- but I'd think the INTENT of the committee was > to have flanged joints on risers not sprigs or "vertical branch lines". > > Hey, they make flanges for CPVC, don't they?
