Under NFPA-13 definitions, a riser is any vertical supply pipe in a 
system, which is quite different from it's definition of a system riser.

In the strict definitions of NFPA-13 terminology a riser could indeed 
serve a branch line(s) or a feed or cross main(s).

I realize that what Dewayne was talking about was -13R, but I've spent 
some considerable time explaining that a vertical pipe raising the level 
of the cross main from 10'-0" to 28'-0" was indeed a riser, at least as 
far as NFPA-13 was concerned.
