13, 2007, 8.15.1.2.7 permits combustible concealed space to be not sprinklered if "entirely filled with non-combustible insulation". From past discussions, I understand 2010 has revised allowing a 2" air gap and the rest filed with insulation. Can someone confirm the 2", as I don't have the 2010.
My question is, if it is 2", why 2"? Other sections seem to allow a void space up to 6". For example, 2007 section 8.15.1.2.3 permits up to 6" between studs or joists, and if you look at the associated figure 8.6.4.1.5.1 the void space can be considerable. My situation is I have a floor/ceiling space comprised of 14" deep, open web wood joists, filled 8" with non-combustible insulation.
