And in 13 there are very specific rules about WHEN the CC's or COINS are
required. And the details have changed over the editions. For example 2"x
trusses with the top plate flat does not require CC's or COIN in the '02 but
I believe in later editions they changed this issue. Just because it's a
truss doesn't really mean anything but you need to go over the specifics
with great detail.

And no if it's wood it's not necessarily wet, insulation for example!
Glu-Lam's concealed, I'd have to look, but 160 cu.ft. come to mind as a
possible way out. Note I don't have a modern 13 at my disposal to look this
up if this is way off base. And I'm rather sure my 1936 edition in mint
condition in my basement wouldn't help here.

Also in the original post Brian asks about trusses but only talks about
Glu-Lam's. They are NOT the same thing. Could just be confusion on my part
cause by the medium of conversation.

There are many instances where you NEED to use interstital heads- Tyco
CC1/CC2 or Viking COINs.
look at 13 and the mfr cutsheets. If in open wood trusses with gyp below,
you'll need draftcurtains, etc.

Subject: NFPA-13 & Wood Joist

People smarter than me.....
In a nut shell what are requirements of NFPA-13 and wood trusses? I know the
exceptions when the ceiling is within 6" of the bottom of the beam and such
but in general is it safe to assume "if it's wood it's wet"? The reason I
bring this up is because I'm working on a Rec. Center and one wing of the
building has Glu-Lam beams that are exposed except in a few areas where
there is a GWB ceiling. The engineer wants pendent heads in the ceilings and
upright heads above but only in the exit corridors, does that make any
sense?
