Along this similar theme of jockey pumps
but looking at it from the opposite
application...

what about a situation
where a very large jockey pump
has been designed for simply
an above ground system? for instance,
dual 150 gpm JPs used to
create an effective 300 gpm JP?

I recommended that the design team
should use a JP just under the flow
required for a typical sprinkler, more
on the order of 25 gpm. They insist
on following the specifications (which
did call for this size), rather than take
suggestions from NFPA 20 and myself
to the client.

It is realized now, that the need for the
fire pumps is practically obsolete, but
 other than correcting the controller
and sensing line setup for this parallel
JP application, and assuring
we get a waterflow switch activating,
if there is an absolute code prescription
preventing this, I have not run into it.
