We have a residential home with a finished install from about 6 months ago. Sprinklers heads are flat concealed residential. We got a call of a blue liquid at and around the sprinkler heads. We had the liquid tested and were given the following information from the chemical engineer that looked at it for us.
We have the FTIR spectrum of the substance. It is a close match the following chemicals: 1) methyl alkyl imidazoline sodium salt 2) Deteric LF 35 3) Tyzor (1) appears to be an ingredient of water based alkaline cleaners. It may also be an ingredient in pesticides used in oil storage tanks as a microbiocide. (2) is a trade name for a cleaner containing (1), made by a company called DeForest. (3) is a chemical used in plastics production, but is pale yellow in colour and may crystallize rather than remaining a liquid. Just wondering if anyone has ever run across this or something similar? It doesn't make sense and we are at a loss to find a plausible solution as to why the liquid would have been applied to the sprinklers. Anything can happen with a homeowner, but I can't see him using some sort of cleaning solution on the sprinklers, having them go a blue color and then call us and blame us for something wrong on the sprinklers.
