George,

When we clear away the material things in life all that's left is what we
did in life for others.

November will mark 37 years in my volunteer fire department, I've lost count
on how many runs I've been on, how many homes and businesses we saved, how
many people we cut out of cars and how many we simply showed up at their
homes in the worst of weather to make sure everything was ok. The experience
has been priceless.

Post 9/11 for me meant joining the public sector for significantly less
money than the private sector. However in that time I've been given the
opportunity to assure that thousands of homes had working smoke and carbon
monoxide alarms and safe heating appliances, seen quite a few buildings
retrofitted with fire sprinkler and alarm systems and improved the means of
egress in many more. Last night I hurriedly traveled back from college
(never stop learning) in northern new jersey to inspect an emergency
electrical service so the utility could restore power to 16 apartments. It's
comp time I'll probably never use.

You sir have done so much for the sprinkler industry protecting thousands of
lives and property in the process. I don't know you well enough but I'm sure
there's much much more.

Lastly, Remember that developer who was teetering on sprinklering those
single family homes in my jurisdiction ? Well George they're sprinklered,
why ?, because of YOU. Because YOU connected the dots and got the right
people on the job at the right time. Hopefully these are systems that will
never be used, but if the moment arises and those people make it out of
those homes alive it will be because of YOU.

God Bless

John Drucker

Subject: glc update

Update on my health: I have stage four lung cancer and my dr told me last
week I should have at least two years before I die of it. My chemo is a
twice a day pill and my side effects are insignificant almost a month into
taking it. Other than some fatigue, like a nap every third day, my quality
of life is near the same, better since I sleep in and work way less now,
spending more time with Cathy and my bucket list. And lately, my TR6 :)
There are 4 more drugs in the pipeline that are genetically targeted for my
ALK cancer, and conventional chemo and radiation remain as additional
weapons in reserve. Obviously pills targeted at my cancer cels are better
and we'll use them hopefully for 2 or 3 more years.
I've played golf (poorly), flown to Holland, and driven my TR (quickly)
lately so no tears are necessary, but continuing prayers are gladly
accepted.
If cancer doesn't kill me, it's the best thing to happen to me in an ironic
turnabout.
Sorry to interrupt the tech discussion but this horse was pulverized anyway.

Thanks for the kind words from many of you, they are appreciated and
uplifting. Managing positive mental attitude 99% of the time. Expect to
continue on 4 TC in SD in Sept, will see some of you there.
Thanks in advance for indulging me for those that are concerned.

Brad, I was in Ohio for two weeks of training in Oct 1974, and I don't
recall what weather we had surveying a job in Columbus in '81. Believe those
were only times I was in Ohio, but I suppose it creeps over 100 almost
annually. You could google it if you're really curious, I'm not. Discovered
life outside sprinklers, like Saint Cathy and Margaret. Might I suggest
going outside and smelling some flowers, refraining from attempting to
define their curvature, just appreciate the infinite variations.
