We also used to use one or more of these.
www.jmesales.com/.../dixon-powhatan-*sprinkler*-*line*-*tester*,10210,49...It
screws into a convenient sprinkler fitting, and the sprinkler screws into
it.  It has a hose bib male for a hose connection.
