An adequate water supply is essential to making the sprinkler system work.
There should be some way of validating that the sprinkler systems proper
functionality is maintained.
My personal opinion is that NFPA 25, based on its current name, is the
appropriate standard.
Also, if a new standard number was introduced it might delay implementation as
it would need to be added as a new reference in the adopting vehicle [code,
regulation, ordinance, etc.].
If sprinkler contractors don't feel they are the appropriate party to validate
the minimum water supply is still present, perhaps another party such as a
design professional can be required.
The interval for such a check would be measured in years, but I would leave
that up to the committee to research appropriate data and determine how many
years should constitute the interval at which the water supply should be
evaluated and validated.

Subject: Re: NFPA25 scope

ACtually this issue is much broader than NFPA 25. NFPA is asking the question,
what if anything that it do to reduce the number of failures of the sprinkler
system to control the fire (due to changes of contents changes in the water
supply, etc where the water discharge is not enough to control the fire). One
of the question is should verifying the adequacy of the sprinkler system be
part of an NFPA 25 inspection or some other NFPA document?

That is the starting point for this thread. What do you gals and guys think?
