I recently retired from a design position in central PA. I told our Victaulic
sales rep over 5 years ago that I deliberately avoided using there products
because it was so cumbersome to download product PDF's for material submittals.
His response was download and save them, then just copy from the saved folder.
That's a good idea except that data sheets are constantly being updated. I was
burned at least twice by following a out dated date sheets for minimum
pressures on residential sprinklers. I got in the habit of always downloading
the latest and greatest. Most of the manufacturers web site have shortcoming in
one way or another but Victaulic's was probably the worst. My other pet peeve
was protected PDF's if you want us to use your product unprotect your PDF's so
we can print them out. Nothing looks cheesier in a submittal, than a bunch of
photocopied pages in the middle of nice printed and annotated PDF's.

I have Steve, and it's true that it has been difficult to navigate. My only
ace
is that I know the majority of part codes for Victaulic's mechanical and
sprinkler items (or at least the corresponding short code) which makes
navigation much easier (agreed, I could probably use that brain space for
something much more practical). The sign-in requirement has largely gone away
and some very small tweaks have been implemented, but as a
whole it is a travesty to navigate still today. My perspective is that as an
advocate to the sprinkler industry, it seems that we DO seem to bash (fill in
the blank) rather than tackle the issues head on and seek out a remedy.
I am just as guilty of this as anyone, this one simply stuck in my craw and I
decided to reach out to Bob about it. It's okay to criticize but I find it
useful to criticize with an intended fix in hand. The really good news is that
you have a fantastic rep (I have a great relationship with ours as well) which
Victaulic is also known for. Let's see what we can do to make it better for
everyone.

Best regards,

Chris:

I don't want to bash Victaulic or get into a comparative discussion of who's
got
the best web site, but you MUST have heard at least once or
twice that Vic's site is hard to navigate, no? I don't know if they
still do it, but you used to have to sign in before you could look up a tech
data sheet. And the password had to be of such a complex config that I could
never remember it - finally gave up on accessing the web
site. I'm lucky that our regional rep is Grade AA #1, so we're not
hurting for support but it's generally delivered the old fashioned way.

Steve L.

I have forwarded this to Bob Freidl, President of Fire Protection at Victaulic,
who has sent this string to his IT department for further action. As a long
time Victaulic distributor, it is important for our company as well as the rest
of the sprinkler community that these types of issues are handled appropriately
in a timely manner. I have given my feedback and would appreciate any
suggestions that the group may have to improve the site and make it more user
friendly as well as work out any bugs that you have encountered.
