Art,

I have worked in the composites industry. It's a second career paralleling my
fire service. The vast majority of industrial ovens I've seen in the composites
industry have sprinklers. I'm surprised to hear that your clients insurance rep
does not think sprinklers are a good idea. Factory Mutual would disagree based
on the attached data sheet. NFPA 86 Standard for Ovens & Furnaces advises
sprinklers in accordance with NFPA 13.

One possible exception may be if the actual oven is physically outside the
building and the oven doors are incorporated into the building wall. But as I
always say too, Check with your local AHJ to get their take on the matter;
because at the end of the day it's what AHJ wants that counts.

Subject: Curing oven for reinforced plastic tanks.

We designed a sprinkler system for a gas fired curing oven for plastic tanks
reinforced with carbon fiber and fiberglass.

The 10 - 40 gallon tanks hang from a conveyer. Zone temperatures vary from warm
to 200-250*F. Cure is over 24 hours.

We show about 20 sprinklers but the owner is reluctant to have sprinklers in
the oven and his insurance company agrees.

What say the forum.
