Hi Reed, Back in the olden days of coal fired power generation the coal crushers were protected with steam. The coal mills had high flow 400 plus degree blowers that entrained the coal particulates in an air stream ducted to the steam boilers. Anything close to liquid water would have caused a steam explosion. Review any power plant fire protection literature and you'll find what you're looking for. Mark at Aero 602 820-7894

This facility is not a Wood Processing or Woodworking Facility, but it seems like that is where I can find the most applicable information to this hazard… In FMDS 7-10, Wood Processing and Woodworking Facilities, 2.3.7 Rotary Dryers, it mentions that “Steam should not be used as the sole extinguishing medium”. I have done some reading in the following data sheets but not finding an abundance of helpful information… FMDS 06-17 Rotary Kilns and Dryers FMDS 07-10 Wood Processing and Woodworking Facilities FMDS 07-73 Dust Collectors FMDS 07-04 Pulp Dryers Any help or direction is appreciated.
