    Hi,

I changed our default options so that the IPython console appears
by default at startup in the last beta (i.e. beta4) but once you
deactivate the option to do that in

    Preferences > IPython > Startup

I found 'Run code' and 'Run a file' in this tab, but nothing else.

We finally decided to eliminate that option and make things more intuitive: if you close the pane, it won't be shown (even after restarting Spyder) until you activate it again in

View > Panes > IPython Console

Also, is 'scientific_startup.py' still being called? It usually outputs text to the regular Python window, but I'm not seeing it there, and the modules appear not to have loaded.

You're right, scientific_startup is not called anymore *by default* but you can activate it if you want to in

Tools > Preferences > Console > Advanced Settings

It was deactivated because newbies got confused when obtaining different behaviors in Spyder and in a system terminal.

Cheers,
Carlos

Thank you!

The iPython console seems to be again the active tab by default
on startup (though I didn't check, so I don't know if this was
fixed and re-emerged since the original report, or if the fix
    never made it in).

On a similar note, is the idea to continue to use
    https://code.google.com/p/spyderlib/issues/list for issues, even
though the main repository has moved to bitbucket? Should I go
    ahead and file this there?

Currently the ipython console (tab) is the active tab by
            default on startup.
What/ where is there control over the default tab which
is selected for the consoles on startup? I would like to
have the regular python console tab be active instead of
            ipython.
I'm looking for any solution which I can do temporarily
in my custom installer. Of course I would recommend this
for the overall default, but that's secondary.

I'm working with 88f93ae (current tip) and running dist
            utils to make the installer.
            thanks,
