Hello again devs and user from around and far
Thanks for all your enthusiastic response :)
It is the end of the year and this topic might seems as not important,
but it is for me personally so I am posting some of the progress on
this matter to keep you guys informed.
So after some minor discussions, Pelican <http://blog.getpelican.com/>
(a static website generator in python) has been chosen as the platform
for the development of the new website to be used in tandem with
github user pages
<https://help.github.com/articles/user-organization-and-project-pages/>.
Right now I am in the process of "playing" with the different options
and plugins to use with Pelican and adapting the existing content in a
pelican friendly format (markdown), which includes the pages in the
googlecode site, the blog (in blogger) among others.
Many ideas are coming to mind for the new website, but some of the
features that will be included are:
* A new blog engine (powered by Pelican itself), so blogger would be
eventually be discontinued
* Search functionality (powered by Tipue Search)
* Blog posts comments via Disqus
I agree with all this.
Some other features under consideration are
* New documentation in site powered by Sphinx (in order to
centralize information in a single place/web)
Yes, it would be really nice too :-)
Finally I am drawing inspiration for how the site should look based on
"competitor" packages in the Scientific/Development IDE environment
which includes:
* Matlab <http://nl.mathworks.com/products/matlab/index.html>
* Ninja-IDE <http://ninja-ide.org/>
* IEP <http://www.iep-project.org/>
* R-Studio <http://www.rstudio.com/>
Any other sites for similar packages can be used as inspiration, so
feel free to comment on any other sites/packages you are aware of.
I really like the R-Studio, and also the Matlab one. I'm not a big fan
of dark sites (Ninja), and too simple ones (IEP).
Additional to this effort there are new channels of communication and
outreach that hopefully will appeal to a larger user base. These include:
* Facebook page
<https://www.facebook.com/pages/Spyder-IDE/1575444006019383>
* Twitter account <https://twitter.com/Spyder_IDE>
* Google+ Page

* Google+ Community
<https://plus.google.com/u/0/b/107193318474220481102/communities/112932801653352854842>
* YouTube Channel
<https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCK0uCG7DVzKUAhaw8veitkw>
This is great! Do you know of good programs to post at the same time to
Twitter, Facebook, Google+? This will make our lives much easier :-)
Please subscribe/follow if you feel more comfortable getting updates
and information on those channels.
Merry X-mas (for those celebrating) and happy new year (idem)
Cheers
