Before I stumbled upon Spyder, I had tried PyCharm (I was mostly, and still am occasionally using SublimeText because it is **fast**) and was turned off by PyCharm's insistence to have everything as "projects". I often have a few tabs with files for a given project, and edit a single file from something completely different ... and PyCharm made this very difficult to deal with; if that would not have been the case, I would never have found Spyder. Please, do not try to compete with PyCharm's approach by insisting that everything must be part of a project.
