Hi,

Unfortunately that page can't be modified anymore, but we're working on a new online version of our documentation.

Cheers,
Carlos

Can I suggest to update https://pythonhosted.org/spyder/installation.html?

This page is referenced a lot and cause confusion.

Also, the instructions for "Run without installing" section doesn't make sense and doesn't work out-of-the box on macOS.

Newbie's landing on this page will have a hard time to get on Spyder (without Anaconda).

For classroom use with macOS and some unsophisticated users, I
would like a version of Spyder that is a "true" macOS app, so
that double clicking on .py files opens them in it. DMG
installers for this have been provided at
    https://github.com/spyder-ide/spyder/releases
    <https://github.com/spyder-ide/spyder/releases> but none for
versions after 3.0.2, with the message being "use Anaconda". The
classroom computers also have Anaconda, so apparently it is
unsafe to install "stand-alone Spyder" using pip.

Are there DMG installers for recent versions of Spyder available
    somewhere?

Nop. I don't have time to create those installers anymore. But
there are instructions to do it here:

    https://github.com/spyder-ide/mac-application
    <https://github.com/spyder-ide/mac-application>

Alternatively (and maybe better), is there a way to create a
"wrapper" for the Spyder within Anaconda which makes it act like
    a true macOS application?

It's possible, but you have to google for it because I don't know
    exactly how that's done.

    Cheers,
    Carlos
