Haven't tried this, but it would seem that 'Service Items' are maybe your
choice for software, as these can be for zero items.

Services are non-tracking items (ie there is no stock) and therefore there
is no impact on COGS.

We have found in the past surprises with the entries generated by the issue
of credit notes for parts (when they should be services) - (not sure we
fully understand the Dr/Cr generation yet) but it seems best to steer clear
and use Services.
