This particular issue ( http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-parted/2011-06/msg00026.html ) didn't happen because two independent UUID generation processes accidentally ended up generating the same UUID. It happened because the same UUID was deliberately reused - a decision that seemed good at the time, but later proved problematic. So it's quite misleading to cite this as the case of "colliding UUIDs".
