Yes Michael it really does take about 24 to 36 hours for LMS to a complete clear and rescan. About 8 hour for one drive, another 12 for the second, bigger drive and another 12 hours to scan the cover art. All cover art files are jpg, under 1mb and stored as a "cover.jpg" file in the same folder as the audio files. But really all this is off topic since it does not address the issue of why a "look for new and changed mediafiles" rescan does not clear deleted audio files from the library (aka database), which is independent of the size of the library (aka database).
