Well -- I backed up the directory just in case and then let the tarball fly. Upon restart it had to rebuild the database and font cache, but other than that no ill effects. For what it's worth, the latest works no differently than the 2-year-old version of 7.9 I was using -- including Spotify, Michael's SPH, and Spotify synchronization between squeezelite on a Mac and an old SB2. That last one is the only one I consider strange -- as Michael made some changes in the latest 7.9 specifically to handle Spotify sync -- but sync always worked for me, even with that two-year-old version of 7.9. I am continually amazed that the Squeezebox ecosystem refuses to die -- no doubt due to efforts from Michael and the rest of this community.
