One more thought. I've been running on 7.9 and was updating the nightly builds frequently until I started troubleshooting the skipping issue. I then installed a version from July that I "think" is solid. I have no problem rolling back to 7.7 or 7.8 if they are proven to be stable and relatively bug free.
