Hi drmatt, Greg and Pippin

Thanks for your posts. Apologies for this lengthy post but I thought it
would be worthwhile explaining quite where I am and why.

My setup, which some may suggest is crazy, is as follows:

1. Raspberry 2B – LMS server 7.9 with 0.5 terabyte SSD with the library
pointing at one folder with all my FLACs and another folder with
mp3-only stuff.
2. which happily serves two wired players (SB classic and Boom) and two
wifi players (SB classic and Radio.Clock). All cope OK with FLAC, mp3
and radio streams.
3. an experimental pi Zero config with a PHATDAC using picoreplayer
3.0.

And fyi
4. I maintain a separate non-library folder of all my FLACs and mp3-only
stuff in mp3 format to support car audio via an SDcard.
5. I use Foobar2000 to sync my main collection to my ipod.

If I connect the zero to my LAN with copper everything works fine.

If I connect the zero through wifi then mp3s and radio streams are good
but FLACs stutter. Having explored this I ended up resigned to this
situation given Gordon of IQAudio fame suggests … “-The zero is also on
the limit of being able to decode hires media. Especially if it's on
wifi. So make sure the wifi signal is best possible between the two.-”

This situation gave rise to my original question about
“-You say I can have duplicate libraries and switch a player from FLAC
to mp3 and v.v. However I am not sure how to do this without getting
duplicates (FLAC & mp3 versions) in my music catalogue. Please can you
explain how I can do this?-”
So this original query stands.

I do not understand DrMatt’s reply re “capped nitrates”. -How do I have
the server transcode to mp3 only for the pi zero player? And would this
put an unmanageable burden on the server? -Excuse my ignorance on this
one.

I appreciate Greg’s comment but I am unsure quite how to resolve the
FLAC/wifi issue. I guess my terminology was wrong and as Pippin points
out it may well be a bandwidth issue – my wifi is good for most things
in my house and perhaps this is one aspect where it falls down.

Thanks in anticipation for any input in addressing my difficulties.

Paul
