Before you do anything you do a backup. But you've already got one for sure, don't you? :-)

Then search for "cachedir". Change that value to the new folder, delete the symlink, restart.

If it re-creates the old cache folder, then that value is likely overridden by the startup script. Where that is defined on your system, I don't know...
