Yes there is a startup script where this is defined, also in an upgrade
script and the uninstall script.

Have you checked the storage manager in DSM? Is the information of the
first disk OK? Install Storage Analyser - not the same as the Storage
manager(!) - and run a report. See if that gives you some more
information about this issue.
