Well, if it's a config option then I would say "indefinitely", as it
won't effect anyone other than the users who tick it.. Why should it
actively throw records out at a time other than a rescan?

My scenario is different. Although my files are stored on the same
machine as LMS, after an unattended reboot it requires passwords to
decrypt the data volumes. If I don't get to it in time it boots and
starts LMS with no files ...

My current workaround is to have the LMS startup script check the
library is mounted before it's allowed to start.
