I was recently in a similar situation. Netgear DUO NAS died. I bought a Synology DS218+ and have been very happy so far. Easy installation of LMS, the user interface is far superior to Netgear. I'm not a techie, so the Raspberry Pi solution recommended by others would have been behind me.
