As a precaution against third party websites becoming unavailable I downloaded the plugin zips I use most often (using lms_extensions.xml as the source of the urls). I then thought I should try and install a plugin manually, just to ensure I know how. I have previously gone through a rather convoluted process using a local apache web server, copying parts of lms_extensions.xml to my own repo list, changing the plugin url to a local one, and then adding the local repo to the plugins page.
I'm sure there must be an easier way, but I have clearly been labouring under either old information or misapprehension about how to do this. I thought that one was meant to copy the zip to /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/Plugins, and unzip it there, expecting LMS to copy it all to /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache/Installed/Plugins and delete the version in /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/Plugins. It seems I was wrong. The plugin stays installed in /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/Plugins, which I believe is incorrect. I've searched this forum but failed to find instructions. Can someone help me? What is the correct procedure for manually install a plugin zip? LMS 7.9.1 on VortexBox Midi box, Xubuntu 17.10, FLACs 16->24 bit, 44.1->192kbps. Touch & EDO. 2nd Touch standard.
