Ok, it was a royal PAIN, but I removed all the various SqueezePlay, spare Boom & Classics, etc. that where only connected for testing after eBay purchase from the config. This reduced the number of players from 74(!) to 28 players that had names I recognized. I started LMS with this updated file and the number of players went down to 6(!) and my startup time went from 2-4 minutes to 60-90 seconds! NICE! There was obviously something in server.prefs that was screwed up, and looking at the structure I could see how this could cause all kinds of headaches.
