Well, given that the memory-eating issue only happened when I set the
scan folder, and not since, the only issue I'm having now is that my
Squeezebox devices won't connect to LMS. They stick a "Searching..."
after I enter a user and password.

Actually, that's not currently true; my Squeezebox Radio is now not
doing anything when I try to select a new media server - I press the
button for it to select one, and a spinning cursor appears but it
doesn't advance. I wonder if that means it's not even seeing the
Linux-based LMS on my network.

But I *am* able to connect to the web interface from my other
laptops/desktops, and connecting to the usual TCP ports using telnet
isn't blocked.

Given that no ports are blocked on the LMS computer, what steps would
you suggest for debugging this Squeezebox connection problem?

Integra Integrated Stereo Amp / Home Built Intel-based HTPC (running
LMS) w/BluRay Player / Panasonic Viera TV
Squeezebox Duet (Received in living room attached to stereo amp,
Controller in bedroom).
Squeezebox Boom in Storage (gift from Slim Devices after they came to my
home to debug a networking issue).
Squeezebox 3 in Bedroom, attached to small "executive" stereo system
with bookshelf speakers mounted on wall.
Squeezebox Radio in Bedroom, next to bed, used as radio alarm.
