The only two times this has been the solution for me (two different PCs, some years apart) the PC had booted fine the previous time it was used, had been left unplugged from the wall thus draining the mobo battery. Plugging in again, switching on produced nothing at all after the fans started up. Nothing appeared on the monitor, no sign of entering BIOS - just nobody home! It was the guy in our local computer shop who said to try the cheap and easy before worrying about mobo fails or other more expensive things. So much to learn, so little time!
