Hi! I posted a thread a week or two ago where I asked for help in turning my old, no longer Windows "compatible" PC into some kind of LMS server. Well - after doing some tests, my computer savvy son tells I can forget about the PC. I it dead. It won't even boot from a Linux USB flash drive.
At the moment I'm running LMS from a laptop with a USB hard drive. It works very well, but it sort of makes the laptop less portable than I could wish for. One of the suggestions in the previous thread was to set up a Raspberry PI as an economic LMS server. I don't know anything about this subject, but after reading about some projects on the web, I'm sure running LMS won't be a problem. I do however have some concern about network storage. Will it be very much slower than USB3? I have a Netgear 5G wi-fi router. I believe none of my HDs have more than 7200 rpm. Some may even be 5700 rpm. What can I expect, and where can I find all the info about hardware and software a newbie would need to set up a working system. Thanks again for taking the time to read my post!
