Regarding proxying through LMS ... it is a setting in LMS itself.
Settings/Player/your player name/Audio/Streaming Method If it is already set to "Proxied streaming" then that might be your problem ... if it is not then try it. Note - if WiFi speed/contention is the underlying issue and LMS is only on WiFi then this would probably makes things worse since an extra hop is being introduced - but it is easy to try.
