Sorry, my 7.9.0 is on a Joggler, so probably a different distro
altogether.
Tried copying it over, anyway and got an Exec format error.

Tried to get a 1.3.2 from
http://rpmfind.net/linux/rpm2html/search.php?query=flac+1.3.2&submit=Search+...&system=&arch=,
but when I try to run, I get "error while loading shared libraries:
libFLAC.so.8: cannot open shared object file: No such file or
directory". I don't see why I need extra libraries for 1.3.2.

As for your AAC question, you're right.. as soon as I rename "flac" to
something else, AAC+ streams also fail to play on my Classic/Receiver
with the same message as I get when I try to play Ogg FLAC. Renaming it
back lets it play once more.
