That sorted it. The purge left the prefs folder and perl but it worked without me ditching them. -However-, it indicated that there was a new version of LMS available and I installed this (logitechmediaserver_7.9.2~1567938514_arm.deb). Then the webGUI failed again. So I have reversed that install and gone back to 7.9.2 - 1567524015. Oddly this time it didn't offer me a new version of LMS. It now works.
