Did perldoc perllocal to get a list of locally installed modules (only
readline), then uninstalled using cpan.

Used cruft-ng | grepping for perl and removed all perl cruft from top
level reported, but I'm still getting the same error.

To save time and patience, I'll simply re-install the system from
scratch. It will be quicker than digging any more.
